Abstract
One of the overwhelming trends in scaling electronic devices is to go 3D. However, the cost of going 3D can be extremely high. Strain-induced self-rolled-up membrane (S-RuM) platform is a novel approach to enable 3D tubular device architectures by self-assembly of 2D membrane structures. This chapter presents a comprehensive summary of self-rolled-up membrane (S-RuM)-based electronics from design, modeling, fabrication, characterization, and device performance. Representative S-RuM active and passive components and devices, including transistors, inductors, capacitors, and antenna, are discussed to show the ability of self-rolled-up platform for improving the electrical performance, miniaturization, and integration. The actuation and reconfigurability of S-RuM devices are also discussed.
