Abstract

A ring motor was sized as a replacement for the front wheel of an electric motorcycle. It makes use of a short axial length and large inner and outer diameter to fit within the wheel's dimensions and minimize weight as best as possible. The motor utilizes an outer rotor, Halbach array, and concentrated windings. Heat pipes were used for its cooling to seal the active region as best as possible, and its electromagnetic and thermal performances were simulated with a small hardware test of the heat pipes performed. A packaging concept of the motor was made and rendered to showcase the usage of heat pipes.
