Abstract

This paper shows the equivalence of propagating plane waves due to a source through a layered medium using the recursive propagation approach and the slab approach. It points to errors in [9, Eqs. (2.4.15), (2.4.16)] and corrects them. In addition, it proves that both of these solutions satisfy the reciprocity relationship. Furthermore, solution for odd and even symmetric sources in a layered medium is derived.
