Abstract
The main topics discussed at the 2nd International Workshop on Data Integration in the Life Sceiences (DILS'05) that took place in Leipzig, Germany, are discussed. A keynote was presented on Challenges in Biological Data Integration in the Post-Genome Sequence Era. The challenges in annotation, provenance, archiving, publishing, and security are also emphasized at the workshop. Twenty accepted research papers covered a wide spectrum of theoretical and practical research issues including user interfaces, analysis tools, ontologies, and data integration techniques. The concept of Bionavigation system presented at the workshop allows scientists express queries over semantic concepts and labeled relationships. The AutoMed tool designed with a hypergraph data model for warehouse-based integration is also presented at the workshop.
