Abstract

The rotatory friction coefficient fr is calculated with the aid of the renormalization group theory. The present calculation shows that the ratio of fr to the intrinsic viscosity [η] depends on the excluded volume and the draining effects. The calculated ratio f r/[η] is about ∼5%-7% less than the conventional value which is obtained by using the preaveraging approximation of the Oseen tensor. The conventional value is independent of the excluded volume and draining effects.
