Abstract
This study is concerned with the correlations of speed at the end of the advance warning and the speed in the work activity. Vehicles are grouped into six driver categories or subcategories on the basis of their speed profiles. In addition, vehicles are also divided into three groups on the basis of initial speed; fast, faster and very fast. Drivers are classified into the combinations of speed groups and driver categories. Majority of the drivers who did not reduce their speeds in the work zones belonged to the Faster and Very Fast groups. One-third of the drivers who were extremely speeding reduced their speeds continuously, while one-third of those who were excessively speeding reduced their speed initially, but increased them in the work activity area and then reduced them when they reached the work space.
