N2 - The dispersion management technique has turned out to be of fundamental importance for the development of long-haul ultra-high speed data transfer through glass fiber cables. We show that solitary L2 solutions of the Gabitov-Turitsyn equation, which describes the evolution of signals in dispersion managed fiber cables, decay exponentially in space and frequency domains. This confirms in the affirmative Lushnikov's conjecture of exponential decay of dispersion managed solitons. For a discrete version version of the Gabitov-Turitsyn equation, describing the evolution of pulses in diffraction managed optical waveguides, we establish super-exponential decay of the solitary signals.
