Red blood cell fluctuations during osmolarity changes

Abstract

Using a novel non-contact technique based on optical interferometry, we quantified the volumetry and nanoscale thermal fluctuations of red blood cells. We found that the mean squared displacement of the cell membranes correlate with both cell morphology and osmolarity-induced volume changes.
