Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for monitoring gaseous and particulate matter emissions from southeastern broiler houses

Abstract

Air emissions monitoring at the site proposed to provide data representative of southeastern U.S. broiler operations for the national Air Compliance Agreement is being conducted cooperatively by Iowa State University and The University of Kentucky. Monitoring system installation was completed in fall 2005, and monitoring for all gaseous and particulate matter parameters was initiated in January 2006 at two mechanically ventilated commercial broiler houses located in western Kentucky. The aerial emissions from the broiler houses quantified in this study include ammonia (NH3), carbon dioxide (CO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHC), total suspended particulates (TSP), particulate matter of ≤ 10μm diameter (PM10), and particulate matter of ≤ 2.5 μm diameter (PM2.5). This paper describes the Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) developed and implemented for this study, including the key components of Project Management, Data Generation and Acquisition, Assessment and Oversight, and Data Validation and Usability.
