Abstract
Since 1994, the University of Illinois Library has been developing a hypertext tool which offers secondary sources on literary, artistic and social life in France, spanning the years 1870-1925. This tool is based on 40,000 notecards created by Philip Kolb for his edition of Marcel Proust's correspondence. The insertion of metadata, hyperlinks and new information necessary for the construction of this database also create an additional level to a structure composed of Proust's and Kolb's successive writings.
