Promoting Social Justice Education Through University–School–Community Collaborations

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter explores key aspects of a collaborative research practice partnership (RPP) between university educational researchers, school officials, and the broader educator community at a suburban Midwestern school district. Two overarching questions guided this research: (a) “What are the key features identified in the focal RPP?” and (b) “How do these features contribute to the success of the RPP?” The purpose of this qualitative study was to analyze the structure and interrelated aspects that composed this partnership and contributed to its successful outcomes. This study employs Bron-fenbrenner’s (1979) ecological systems framework to examine the different factors influencing how stakeholders sought to work together to use evidencebased research to address a problem identified in the focal school district. The chapter ends by asserting the importance of university–school–community collaborations and encouraging researchers and school communities to consider RPPs as new avenues to develop collective critical knowledge and promote social justice in education.
