Program Values From a Multilingual and Multicultural Hong Kong Preschool

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

International School Hong Kong (ISHK) is a multilingual, multicultural program that stresses emerging global mindsets within a developmentally appropriate early childhood program. This investigative case study proposes foundational values of the program. Proposed values include a strong belief among teachers and administrators of the children’s worthiness of respect, relationships within the classroom, support for children as additional language learners, and learning through an investigative pedagogy and emergent curriculum. While investigation of ISHK is continuing into more focused research projects, results from this first case study suggest a programmatic and pedagogical model with the potential to be of great interest to researchers in early childhood education.
