Abstract

The use of object-matching applications to help consolidate information about entities and remove duplicates is discussed. Object matching plays an important role in information management contexts, including information integration, data warehousing, information extraction and text joins in databases. The profile-based object matching solution, as embodied in the PROM system, exploits disjoint attributes to maximize matching accuracy. The key to PROM is that disjoint attributes are often correlated, and this correlation is leveraged to perform a 'sanity check' on object matching.
