Abstract

A two-state Markov process model for fatigue crack growth is utilized with experimental fatigue crack growth data reported by H. Ghonem and S. Dore to study the effect of stress ratio on fatigue crack growth. Several fatigue crack growth laws including modified Paris and cubic laws are considered in this study. Although higher moments are not satisfactorily modeled when using a single parameter set predictive model, the calculated means do compare well with the data. Additional experimental data is required to further verify model improvement.
