Abstract

This paper demonstrates a generalized, semi-analytic method for estimating the weight of electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs) and various components thereof. It presents the underlying theory of the method, and the details of its inclusion in the open source conceptual aircraft design toolbox, SUAVE. It presents the explicative results of those methods, and extrapolations across a range of possible vehicle parameters. An estimate of the range of confidence for the methods in the design space is derived from a surrogate created using Gaussian processes (GPs) as regressors.
