Abstract
The two fundamental discrepancies between actual consolidation behavior of soils and that predicted by the Terzaghi consolidation theory were explained. Many implications of secondary compression phenomenon, including secondary settlement were explained and predicted by the law of compressibility. The proper role of compressibility with time was empirically established.
