Abstract
The objective of the present study was to summarize the studies that report the prevalence of sedentary behavior, measured by screen devices, in Brazilian adolescents. It is a systematic review using the PubMed, Scopus, Scielo and Lilacs databases and the key words: "sedentary behavior", "sedentary lifestyle", "screen time", "TV viewing", "adolescent", "Young" and "Brazil", as well as their respective homonyms in portuguese. The inclusion criteria were: observational studies; With Brazilian adolescents (10 and 19 years); which reported the prevalence of exposure to total screen time or to some apparatus (television, computer, video game). We analyzed 44 studies that met the inclusion criteria. Most of the studies 79.1% were published in the last five years and involved adolescents from the South and Northeast. The prevalence ranged from 20.0% to 90.5%, with more than half of the studies reporting a prevalence of more than 50%. Regarding the type of exposure, 63.7% used the unified measure (TV, computer and videogame) to assess excessive exposure to sedentary behavior. The results of the present review indicate that there is a great heterogeneity in the prevalence of screen time as an indicator of sedentary behavior in Brazilian adolescents.
