Abstract

Addition of an excess of t-butyl isocyanide to solid Mo2 (O2 CCF3)4 or Mo2 - (O2 CMe)4 gives (t-BuNC)5 Mo(O2 CCF3)2 or (t-BuNC)4 Mo(O2 CMe)2, respectively. The quadruple bond in K4Mo2 Cl8 or C14Mo2 (n-Bu3P)4 also can be cleaved by an excess of t-butyl isocyanide to yield (t-BuNC)5 MoCl2. The anionic ligands can be exchanged with ammonium hexafluorophosphate in presence of excess t-BuNC to give the known [(t-BuNC)7 Mo] [PF6 ]2 · t-Butyl isocyanide also cleaves the quadruple metalmetal bond in Re2 (O2 CMe)4 C12 to give (t-BuNC)5 ReCl.
