Abstract

An injection molding simulation program (C-MOLD's CFIBER) was used to predict the fiber orientation in plaques and tensile bars molded from glass-filled PBT (Valox 420) and polycarbonate (Lexan 3413). C-MOLD's fiber orientation predictions were imported into HKS's ABAQUS for mechanical property prediction and subsequent structural analysis. Prediction of mechanical properties is extremely important in the prediction of ultimate performance of a part. Tremendous amounts of time and money can be saved if one can predict the mold-ability and mechanical properties of a part at the design stage.
