Abstract

An encyclopedia entry on postmodernism must begin by noting the irony of the enterprise. Although the meaning of postmodernism is controversial, it is generally agreed that postmodernism represents the end of the systemic generalizations, universal categorizations, and simple narrative accounts characteristic of the encyclopedia. However, since many judge postmodernism to be dead, it may be possible to define it more decisively now.
