Abstract

The dynamics of the relative phase following the connection of the two independently formed Bose-Einstein condensates was studied. It was assumed that dissipation is caused by the spontaneous creation of quasiparticles within each well due to fluctuating number of particles in the condensate that is caused in turn by the coherent exchange of atoms. The resultant data were analyzed in detail.
