Abstract

Summary form only given. A series of experiments has been carried out to characterize, optimize, and determine the feasibility of the dense plasma foci (DPF) as a pump source for short-wavelength, high-power lasers. Efforts directed toward developing and optimizing the DPF as an efficient high-power, short-wavelength optical pump are described. The highlights include a detailed luminescent characteristics study of the DPF and a series of lasing experiments with a variety of organic liquid dyes.
