Partially Coherent Rayleigh Noise in Forward Error Corrected Optical Links

Abstract

System impairments due to partially coherent Rayleigh backscattering is studied in a forward error corrected transmission scheme. We find that the signal coherence and polarization influences the FEC performance strongly.
