Abstract

An expert system is developed that yields optimal economic return for any given house type and arbitrary outside temperature variations. The method is dynamic, providing an inside set point temperature for current conditions. The expert system is used for simulations over a broad range in outside temperature, and three housing types, to evaluate the potential for savings that may be achieved. Minimum savings are on the order of 0. 5 cent per kg, larger savings (up to 3 cents per kg) are predicted depending on the management strategy chosen for comparison.
