Abstract

Nanoparticles enhance local fields to amplify surface enhanced Raman spectroscopic signals. Field enhancement also increases optical extinction, unexpectedly shifting the maximum Raman scattering away from resonance. We quantify the interplay to predict optimal enhancement.
