Abstract

The optimal placement of a number of elastic supports on a simply supported square plate is investigated. The discrete- distributed system is modeled analytically using a dynamic flexibility formulation. The maximization of the first system natural frequency is accomplished by applying an iterative algorithm based on the Steepest Descent method. Several numerical examples are presented and results are given for the 1,2,3, and 4-spring systems.
