Abstract

Anglers today are asking more questions than ever about techniques, equipment, species information, and new places to pursue their passion for sport fishing. Providing anglers with easy access to fisheries information and data not only enhances their angling experience, but can educate anglers about the management, science, and conservation efforts of their state or provincial agency. The IFishIllinois website was developed to expand the scope of information outreach provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources by serving as the primary source of information for all anglers fishing in Illinois waters. The website includes information on where anglers can fish (lake and river profiles), weekly fishing reports, and family-friendly fishing locations, as well as fishing license and regulation information. Additionally, the IFishIllinois website and the associated social media platforms serve as an arena to present up-to-date information on topics such as recreational angling research, best practices for catch-and-release angling, biological profiles of sportfish, engaging youth in fishing, and angling-related news. Quantitative and anecdotal evidence of the success of IFishIllinois for angler education and outreach will be presented.
