N2 - A one-arm microstrip spiral antenna with a circular aperture on the ground plane that functions as an eccentric spiral antenna is proposed. Its main beam moves linearly as frequency increases so that the beam direction can be easily predicted. It is shown that an optimized structure has a return loss less than 10 dB above 3.6 GHz, the axial ratio lower than 3 dB in the direction of main beam over one octave bandwidth, and gain over 2.5 dBi for the operating frequency range.
