Abstract

Activation-energy asymptotics enables steady combustion states not only to be determined but also to be examined for stability. Here the S-response of a diffusion flame in a chamber is considered, in particular the top bend corresponding to ignition. The upper branch is found to be stable and the middle branch unstable, the neutral point lying exactly at the bend.
