Abstract

Because of a wide range of factors, English has become a global and international language, of incomparable spread and utility in the world today. A number of these factors have been external factors linked to the power and politics of language, but other reasons have been linked to a number of internal factors, including ‘capaciousness’, ‘simplicity’, ‘flexibility’, ‘great literature’ and ‘a simple script’.
