Abstract

In this paper we investigate the dynamics of a tethered system near the collinear libration points exploiting the benefits of the Hill approach. Rotating and non-rotating tethers, with constant or variable length, are investigated. We include the mass of the tether in the formulation to obtain more accurate simulations when very long tethers are involved. We try simple strategies that permit, using a feedback control law, to stabilize the system around equilibrium positions which are basically unstable.
