Abstract
Wood fiber hardboard is produced by pressing wood fibers and various additives such as petrolatum and resin into a hard, high-density board. Boards with controlled content were manufactured and acoustic emissions (AE) were monitored during compression tests across the board thickness. It has been observed that the acoustic response during the compression tests of wood fiber hardboard depends upon the board content and correlates well with results of boil swell tests. Therefore, acoustic emission non-destructive evaluation may be successfully implemented to characterize wood fiber hardboard.
