Abstract
A logic-based framework for semantically registrating resources with ontologies and the properties of the resulting semantic registrations are discussed. Semantic data registration allows a dataset to be interpreted as a partial model of an ontology, but does not necessarily provide enough information to identify the same individuals across multiple datasets. The ability to identify equivalent data objects across different datasets is needed in practice because each dataset may only provide a portion of the information concerning a particular object. An early implementation of the semantic registration procedure is also described in the context of an ontology-enabled geologic map integration system.
