On adaptive acquisition of spoken language

Abstract

Progress in building a device capable of acquiring the necessary linguistic skills for high-perforkance speech synthesis is reported. Some principles and mechanisms upon which such a device might be based are described. Several rudimentary experiments evaluating their utility are recounted.
