Abstract

An observation of an excited Λc+* baryon decaying to Λc+π+π-, with Λc+→pK-π+, is presented. We reconstruct 39.7±8.7Λc+* baryons with a mass of 340.4±0.6±0.3 MeV/c2 above the Λc+ mass. The upper limit on the resonant branching ratio is B(Λc+*→cπ±)/B(Λc+*→Λc+ π+π-)<36% at the 90% confidence level.
