Abstract

This paper presents an object-oriented information framework and a prototype system to enhance construction project information management. An information framework has been developed based on existing project information management needs. Focusing on the integration of product and process aspects of construction information, the information framework uses multiple view-based modeling. All information is modeled as objects in multiple layers, depending on different points of view for construction information management, including contract management, scheduling, cost control, daily administration, and change management. The layers are integrated into a global information framework. Based on the integrated information framework, a prototype system is being developed by using object-oriented programming (C++) and an object-oriented database. The modularity of the information framework allows the prototype system to support each participant's unique responsibilities fully, while providing the benefits of an integrated information management system.
