Abstract

This report quantitatively assesses the potential for groundwater contamination from land burial of municipal wastes in hydrogeologic situations common to Illinois. These ratings can be used for preliminary, regional feasibility assessments of site suitability for land burial of municipal wastes. The research also evaluates the appropriateness of the Illinois Pollution Control Board's proposed compliance distance of 100 feet surrounding a landfill as a regulatory requirement for maximum leachate migration during a 1OO-year period.
