Abstract

We have determined the T1 oligonucleotide catalog and the complete nucleotide sequence of the gene for the Dictyostelium discoideum small-subunit ribosomal RNA. The gene does not appear to contain an intron and has relatively low homology with other eukaryotic small-subunit rRNAs. The homology data indicate that D. discoideum diverged from the mainstream of eukaryotic descent at the earliest branch yet characterized by molecular phylogeny.
