Abstract

Treatment of 9-aryl-2,7-dimethoxyacridine-10-oxides with acetic anhydride results in a novel rearrangement to the corresponding 4-acetoxy-acridines. The rearrangement offers a convenient synthetic route to polyoxygenated acridines.
