Abstract
Nonlinear ir absorption has been measured in an LO phonon in thin KReO4 films at room temperature. The excited-state lifetime is at least two orders of magnitude longer than that observed for the corresponding single-ion vibrational mode in matrix-isolated ReO4-. We attribute the long lifetime to the restrictions imposed by phonon momentum conservation within the film.
