Abstract

The nanostructure evolution during cluster growth of silver on silicon surfaces was discussed. The size of small clusters effects the cluster growth and structure. On high energy surfaces as that of clean silicon a wetting layer is formed at the initial stages of growth. The rapid coalescence of small clusters drives the nanostructure transition and leads to steplike growth of nanoclusters.
