Abstract

A physical-hydraulic model of bank modifications for the mitigation of habitat losses in rivers altered for barge navigation was investigated. Results indicate that the proposed modifications would be compatible with existing uses and could provide a significant increase in habitat diversity, thereby enhancing fisheries. Mitigation efforts such as this could prove to be valuable and costeffective if integrated into the planning stage of water resource project development.
