Abstract

A model is proposed to calculate chemical reactions in the direct simulation Monte Carlo method. The model is designed for discrete energy distributions of internal molecular modes, and applicable for diatomic as well as polyatomic systems. The new model is applied to compute a dissociating CO2 flow over a 60-deg blunted cone entering the Martian atmosphere at an altitude of 65 km.
