Model reduction of periodic systems: A lifting approach

Abstract

A lifting approach for model reduction of stable periodic systems was presented. The balanced truncation with guaranteed error bounds for periodic systems were discussed. This method was found to be useful and advantageous over the currently available techniques when the model belonged to the class of stable periodic systems of large number of states, moderate period lengths, and relatively small number of states, moderate period lengths, and relatively small number of inputs and outputs. It was observed that for models of the aforementioned class, the error bounds supplied by the proposed approach are usually far smaller than those given by the previous methods, for the same order reduction.
