Abstract
This paper reports on a customized microcomputer communications package - called ILLINOIS SEARCH AID - which has been developed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Engineering Library to facilitate online database searching. This software permits the microcomputer to function as a reference services workstation by providing: 1) efficient, cost-effective access to remote bibliographic databases; 2) separate or linked access to the local online catalog and circulation system; and 3) the capability of storing and accessing other local information stored on floppy disks. These databases are all accessed within the same software package with no rebooting or changing of software and with a minimum of logging on and off.
