Methodologies for nonlinear periodic media

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

We discuss analytical methodologies for analyzing waves in weakly or strongly nonlinear periodic media. These include techniques for studying standing and traveling waves in weakly nonlinear periodic media; methodologies for analyzing primary wave transmission in layered elastic media with strong nonlinearities; and new concepts and methods for traveling waves, solitary waves and pulse attenuation in strongly nonlinear homogeneous and heterogeneous granular media with no pre-compression. The field of nonlinear periodic media is a promising area of research with potential of diverse applications in science and engineering.
