Metasearch technologies in reference work, OAI, and search navigation assistance

Research output: Contribution to journalConference articlepeer-review

Abstract

Various metasearch systems solutions have been developed by libraries, vendors, and information providers for simultaneous searching over online databases, Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) Services, Online Catalogs (OPAC), OAI federated systems and information resources. Libraries have implemented a number of vendor-based metasearch systems utilizing broadcast-search techniques over the major A&I Services and OPACs. These systems are offered within integrated library systems often in conjugation with local link servers. These metasearch systems utilize Z39.50, HTTP 'screen-scraping', and XML gateway broadcast search techniques.
