Abstract

The domain between pure, highly entangled states, and highly mixed, weakly entangled states was theoretically explored. Two-qubit states were partially characterized by their purity and degree of entanglement. An analytical form for these maximally entangled mixed states (MEMS) was derived and shown to be optimal for the entanglement and purity measures considered.
