Abstract
Focusing on the genre of seascapes, this article observes a series of interartistic migrations, going from painting to literature and back to the visual arts in the works of Anselm Kiefer. The German artist relies on Rimbaud’s and Proust’s literary appropriations of the pictorial genre and brings the seascape back into the field of visual arts. It becomes the matrix of an art where all boarders – whether generic, artistic, geographic or symbolic– fluctuate. From Rimbaud to Kiefer, the genre of the seascape migrates in such a way that it becomes emblematic of the very dissolution of all boarders and genres, that will lead to their recomposition.
