MAEviz/NEESgrid and applications overview

Abstract

MAEviz is the next generation of seismic risk assessment software based on the Consequence-based Risk Management methodology. The software development is a joint effort between the MAE Center and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). MAEviz is a platform-independent program being built upon NEESgrid, the next-generation collaborative framework for earthquake engineering research. This paper provides overviews of both MAEviz and NEESgrid and discusses current development efforts on integrating MAEviz into NEESgrid. Our ultimate goal is to make MAEviz the first open source, cyberenvironement-based, total risk management tool that is applicable to pre-event planning and mitigation decisions, rapid response and rescue-recovery, reconstruction, asset management, retrofitting options comparison, decision-making and post-event alternative scenario analysis.
